Churchill, York Factory’s main entry point, is 1,400 kilometres (870 miles) northeast of Winnipeg, accessible only by plane or VIA Rail train.

Access into the historic site is via small charter aircraft, boat or on a challenging paddling trip down the Hayes River.

Weather conditions are unpredictable and York Factory is situated in polar and black bear country. Facilities are limited to a safe camp site within a fenced compound.
