Frenchman Butte marks the spot of the armed battle of 1885 between Plains Cree warriors fighting under the lead of Wandering Spirit and the Canadian Militia troops commanded by General Strange. A thick forest of Aspen trees at the top of the gently sloping valley leads down to the meandering North Saskatchewan river below surrounded on both sides by grassy green fields.

Discover the rifle pits which were dug by the Cree to protect their warriors and the civilian hostages that they had captured from Fort Pitt. In a timeless prairie landscape imagine taking cover from the rifle and cannon fire of General Strange’s men before taking aim and firing back.
