Visitor guidelines

Parks Canada would like everyone visiting Motherwell Homestead National Historic Site to enjoy the park in a safe manner that respects the experience of other visitors and preserves the park environment. For this reason some activities have been prohibited within Motherwell Homestead National Historic Site.

The following are examples of prohibited activities in Motherwell Homestead National Historic Site:

• Causing excessive noise or other kind of disturbance
• Camping without a permit or exceeding the stay limit
• Hunting or disturbing wildlife
• Being in the possession of a firearm* unless the firearm is unloaded and in a case.
• Feeding or attracting wildlife
• Collecting natural (e.g. wildflowers, rocks, mushrooms, berries) or cultural objects (e.g. arrowheads)
• Failing to have a domestic animal (e.g. dog, cat) under physical control at all times.
• Flying unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs / Drones and other radio controlled aircraft). A Special Flight Operations Certificate (SFOC) may also be required from Transport Canada for the UAV depending on its weight and/or planned flight location.
• Use of any motorized vehicle not on a designated road, including ATVs, over-snow vehicles, and trucks
• Conducting any business** without being the holder of a Business Licence issued by the Field Unit Superintendent

* Please note: that the definition of firearm under the National Parks of Canada Wildlife Regulations means any weapon from which any shot, bullet or other missile can be discharged and cause injury or death to wildlife (e.g. slingshots, pellet guns, handmade bows).

** Please note: The definition of a business under the National Parks of Canada Businesses Regulations means any trade, industry, employment, occupation, activity or special event carried on in a park for profit, gain, fund raising or commercial promotion, and includes an undertaking carried on in a park by a charitable organization, or by an organization or individual on a non-profit basis.
