Winter in Glacier National Park
Each winter, Parks Canada and the Canadian Armed Forces work together to release avalanches in a controlled manner before they become a threat to the transportation corridor
If you plan to tour in Glacier National Park, be aware that many areas of the park have restricted and prohibited access in winter — which are defined and managed within the Winter Permit System
The Avalanche Terrain Exposure Scale (ATES) offers an avalanche classification system based on the landscape – not the snow.
Maps of common areas with major runout zones highlighted.
The Winter Terrain Atlas provides valuable visual terrain information to backcountry users of Mount Revelstoke and Glacier national parks.
