Anticipated traffic slowdown - East and West entrances - Trans-Canada Highway
Motorists are advised that work to upgrade both the east and west entrances to Terra Nova National Park on the Trans-Canada Highway will commence Monday, May 8 and continue until fall 2017. Reduced speed zones will be in place on the eastern and western approaches to Terra Nova National Park for the duration of the work.  Drivers will encounter work crews, flag persons and temporary signage in the area and are reminded to slow down and obey all traffic signage and signals.

Currently under construction. Please adhere to construction and traffic signs.

Ongoing projects

Rehabilitation of Park Entrance Areas
Majoir visitor impact
Redesign and development of park entrances on the Trans-Canada Highway will meet visitor needs, improve traffic flow and provide an enhanced "sense of arrival" for Canadians visiting Terra Nova National Park

Playground Equipment Rehabilitation
Minor visitor impact
Playgrounds and associated equipment in the Park will be redesigned and replaced to meet visitor needs and current safety standards.

Newman Sound Campground Entrance Kiosk Rehabilitation
Minor Visitor Impact
Current entrance area kiosks are deteriorating and the existing entrance design creates traffic congestion issues. New design and replacement of kiosks will improve access, support more efficient park operations and better meet visitor needs.

Completed projects

Trans Canada Highway Safety and Standards Rehabilitation
Major Visitor Impact
The section of the TCH that runs through Terra Nova National Park requires investments to meet current highway standards. The planned investment will result in several passing lanes being constructed, significantly improving traffic flow and supporting safe highway travel for Park visitors and the travelling public.

Malady Head Campground Washroom Buildings Rehabilitation
Minor visitor impact
Current washroom facilities do not meet visitor demand. Facilities require updating to low volume toilets and showers along with interior modifications to improve accessibility.

Eco-Science Building Rehabilitation
Minor visitor impact
The existing building is underutilized and requires repair. This project will see the interior of the building renovated to allow increased use for Park operations and partnership activities

Newman Sound Campground Washroom Rehabilitation
Minor Visitor Impact
This project will result in the rehabilitation of 3 existing washroom/shower facilities within Newman Sound Campground, making them more responsive to visitor needs.

Ochre Hill Lookout Tower Area Development
Major Visitor Impact
The existing viewing platform will be expanded to a 2-story platform structure, providing visitors with a panoramic view of the park and surrounding area.

Marine Wharves Rehabilitation
Minor Visitor Impact
Structural assessments have confirmed issues with existing marine wharf facilities in Terra Nova National Park. This project will see the removal of the “headquarters wharf” which is no longer required to support park operations. Significant repairs will be carried out on the wharf located at the Saltons Visitor Centre, which is the main docking location for those accessing the park by boat.

Northwest River Bridge Replacement
Minor Visitor Impact
The overall objective of this project is to remove the existing deteriorated Northwest River Bridge and complete replacement with new bridge construction.

Route 310 (Broad Cove) Bridge Rehabilitation
Minor Visitor Impact
This bridge, on the road to the Eastport Peninsula, requires repairs to its structure given its age and exposure to a salt water environment. Repairs will be carried out on the steel supports, concrete abutments and bridge curb/railing systems.
