Claire-Fontaine trail

Kouchibouguac National Park

Hiking Parc Bench Parking

Distance: 3.3 km loop
Time: 1 to 1.5 h
Difficulty: Easy
Habitat: Forest, fresh water, lagoon, salt marsh

The parking lot for this fine trail is located just before the Black River Bridge on Highway 117.

Named after the village that was located in this area before the park was created, the trail meanders along Rankin Brook, the Black River, and the Kouchibouguac Lagoon.

The sometimes dark undergrowth is wonderfully cool on hot summer days. The trail goes through various forest stands, including a mature aspen grove.

In the fall, many ducks and other waterfowl can be seen feeding in the rich waters along the trail.
