A world renowned pathologist, Maude Abbott was one of the first women to practise and teach medicine in Canada. She joined McGill University's Faculty of Medicine in 1898, where she became curator of the medical museum and developed a system of classification for specimens. A founder and active member of the International Association of Medical Museums, she was McGill's first medical historian. Her research on heart conditions and her Atlas of Congenital Cardiac Disease earned her international recognition.
