Scientist, cartographer, geographer and historian William Francis Ganong was born in Saint John. During thirty-eight years of professor of Botany at Smith College in Massachusetts (1894-1932), he accumulated and published material of a historic and scientific nature pertaining to New Brunswick, while becoming a leading authority on the cartography of the east coast of North America. This brilliant scholar died at his place of birth.
