artESCAPE
Lake Superior National Marine Conservation Area
By Sadie Gross
The 2nd annual artESCAPE is on its way! On July 30 and 31, Lake Superior National Marine Conservation Area (NMCA) will feature seven talented artists from the North of Superior region whose work has been inspired by the beauty and tranquility of Lake Superior, just as the Group of Seven had been in the 1900s.
As a part of the "Celebrate Nipigon!" weekend of activities, which includes the Blueberry Blast and Paddle-to-the-Sea Jubilee, artESCAPE is an interactive, outdoor art gallery showcasing our very own Group of Seven. Seven selected artists from the top of Lake Superior will display their work for visitors to view and purchase, as well as conduct demonstrations. artESCAPE runs from 1 to 4 pm on Saturday and Sunday. The outdoor gallery will be set up in Nipigon’s Rotary Park. Third Street will be closed to traffic for a fun-filled weekend street party.
The Lake Superior NMCA launched its first artESCAPE event last summer at the Red Rock marina with the goal of increasing awareness of the Group of Seven's presence on Lake Superior’s northern shore. As the event approaches, more information on the weekend’s activities and this year’s artists will be posted on Lake Superior NMCA’s social media pages and website.
