Protecting species
Lake Superior National Marine Conservation Area
As one of the responsible agencies for the federal Species At Risk Act, Parks Canada is obligated to monitor and report on species at risk within Lake Superior NMCA. Collaborations with partner agencies will be key to this aspect of resource management within the site. Some of the species at risk known to occur in the conservation area are fish, and there appear to be opportunities related to the Great Lakes Coordinated Science and Monitoring Initiative (CSMI) and other programs. Incidental observations of listed species are tracked during the field season, to ensure up to date information and reporting on the occurrence of Species at Risk within the site.
