Ice safety
Saguenay–St. Lawrence Marine Park
Ice fishing
In winter, when weather conditions allow, local communities and visitors go ice fishing.
This activity is done in fishing villages located in the Saguenay–St. Lawrence Marine Park, at L'Anse Saint-Jean and Sainte-Rose-du-Nord.
Ice fishing is done on a shifting layer of ice that is influenced by currents, tides and the passing of commercial ships. Rigorous climatic conditions (cold, strong winds and poor visibility), as well as obstacles on the ice (cracks, holes and uneven surface), increase the risk level.
If you are planning an ice fishing activity, learn the instructions to follow and the equipment to bring to ensure that you have a pleasant and safe experience.
When the ice breaks, every minute counts!
If a person falls into the water, contact 911 as soon as possible!
