The pulp and paper industry in Quebec was a major force in the economic and industrial development of the country. Drawing on the province's abundant forests and powerful waterways, it helped make Canada the world's top exporter of newsprint by 1913 and its largest producer by 1926. For much of the 20th century, pulp and paper remained the biggest Canadian manufacturing industry in terms of production value. Once home to the world's largest paper mill, Trois-Rivières was known for a time as the pulp and paper capital of the world.
