Overview
Fort Rodd Hill and Fisgard Lighthouse National Historic Sites is part of The Whale Trail, a network of shore-based locations where visitors may watch whales and other marine mammals along the Pacific coast.
The waters surrounding Fort Rodd Hill and Fisgard Lighthouse National Historic Sites are part of the critical habitat of the endangered Southern Resident Killer Whale. These animals struggle to find enough salmon to eat, and they are vulnerable to contaminants. Also, boat disturbance and noise interfere with their ability to find prey and communicate with each other.
Parks Canada is collaborating with other groups to support the recovery of Southern Resident Killer Whales, through law enforcement, education programs, and science and monitoring. These groups include Indigenous partners, academia, other federal departments, and non-government organizations.
