Virtual Visit to Fort Langley (elementary students)

Experience the history of Fort Langley from your classroom! Meet virtually with an experienced heritage presenter to discover the importance and impact of the fur trade on Fort Langley and local Indigenous communities.

Learning Objectives

• The history of the Hudson’s Bay Company and the Canadian fur trade;
• Fort Langley’s role as a diversified trading post; and,
• Early contact, trade, co-operation, and conflict between First Peoples and European peoples.

Designed for students in grades K-7, this school program addresses the "Big Ideas" for Social Studies in BC’s course curriculum for grades K to 6.

• Capacity: One class per time slot, maximum of 30 students per class
• Method: A Google Meet link will be provided to you at the time of booking
• Offered: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday at 12:30 pm PST, each program is one hour. 
• Language: Available in English or French
• Please ensure that all schools have a fair chance to participate in our programs: give us at least two weeks' notice of any cancellations, so that we may offer the time slot to another class.

How the program works

• A Parks Canada interpreter will meet your class on Google Meet and deliver a virtual interpretive program about the importance and impact of the fur trade on the road to the creation of the colony of British Columbia.
• After the presentation, watch a live flint and steel demonstration as a Parks Canada interpreter will make fire using basic tools.
• At the end of the program, there will be time for a short question and answer period.
