Parka’s favourite places at The Forks

The Forks National Historic Site

The Forks is Winnipeg’s iconic meeting place, bustling with dining, shopping and entertainment attractions. And there’s still probably more to do than you think!

Let a larger-than-life beaver — Parks Canada mascot Parka — show you her favourite spots in and around The Forks National Historic Site.

Travel Manitoba Visitor Information Centre

Parka loves to start her visit to The Forks at the Travel Manitoba Visitor Information Centre. There, she is greeted by a friendly Parks Canada staff member, can pick up a Discovery Pass and learn more about destinations across the province including Prince of Wales Fort and York Factory national historic sites. It’s also the starting point for the Where Our Stories Meet walking tour. But most importantly, it’s a great place to meet up with friends (like Toba).

Fort Parka

Yay! It’s time to play! From cooling off at the splash pad to scuttling down the slide (hey, it’s not easy when you have such a large tail!), Fort Parka is a great place for a busy little beaver. When you’re done on the play structure, join Parks Canada’s joyful interpreters for cool crafts and fun activities.

Picnic area

All that fun will leave any creature famished! Catch your breath and have a munch at The Forks’ picnic area. Parka’s always willing to share her twigs, but you may prefer to bring your own snack.

Riverwalk

There are times of year when the beautiful Riverwalk hugging the Red River (and leading to the Assiniboine) is better suited to beavers than humans. But when it’s open, Parka thinks it’s a great place to go for a waterfront walk or take a bike ride where the two rivers meet.

Red Chairs

Phew! What a day! Parka loves to kick up her feet and reflect on the wonderful time she just had in the comfort of one of Parks Canada’s iconic Red Chairs. Follow her lead, have a chat with a friend, and don’t forget to snap a selfie and #sharethechair on social media.
