Keeping an eye on Beaubears Island

Parks Canada would like to remind the public that camping and campfires are not permitted on Beaubears Island.

The island is home to one of the only mature forests in the region. That’s why Parks Canada and the Friends of Beaubears Island are doing everything to protect it by avoiding the risks associated with campfires and camping.

Recreational boaters are welcome to dock along the wharves near Beaubears Island and Bicentennial Park in Nelson-Miramichi. It is important to note, however, that vessels belonging to the Friends of Beaubears Island have priority along these wharves. Spots which are solely for the use of Friends of Beaubears Island boats will be marked, and recreational boaters are asked not to dock in these spots. These rules have been put in place to ensure the safety of visitors taking part in guided activities on Beaubears Island and to make their experience more enjoyable.

In recent years, residents of the Miramichi region (particularly those living in Nelson) have been helping the Friends of Beaubears Island watch over the island in order to protect it. Should you witness or have concerns about any unusual or unsafe activities on Beaubears Island, you can call 1-877-852-3100. In the event of an emergency, you should call 9-1-1.
