Outdoor weddings
Celebrate your love within the walls of a 19th century fort — this memorable location will inspire you with its distinct character and versatility. We offer tented weddings in the Parade Square within a private inclusive space that can host up to 1,000 guests or if you prefer something more intimate, we can accommodate small ceremonies on the grassy ramparts behind the North Magazine.
Indoor weddings
Take a step back in time and get married in one of our unique and intimate indoor venues. Keep the historic charm or add in a modern flair, we are open to customizing the space to fit your vision of your special day. Our rooms are versatile — host your ceremony in one room and your reception in another. We are fully licensed and can provide catering to fit your needs, from light hors d’oeuvres to a four-course dinner. The Halifax Citadel is open year-round for indoor events.
The Garrison Room in the North Magazine gives a modern flair to a converted gun powder magazine with beautiful high brick walls, period paintings and fine woodwork. The North Front Casemates offer a more historic atmosphere in what used to be adjoining soldiers’ barracks rooms with in-floor lighting and vaulted ceilings. Beautiful fireplaces and white walls offer easy decorating options to make the venue just right for your special day. Looking for historic and intimate? Discover The Soldiers’ Library and Coffee Bar.
Add historic touches
Add some historic colour to your wedding by hiring our costumed interpreters. Be it a kilted soldier, resplendent in scarlet standing guard, a bagpiper piping your favourite Scottish tune, or a drummer to add some drama to the day, discover how you can Book a Highlander.
