Carillon Canal National Historic Site

The area considered here is located on the north shore of the Ottawa River, close to the village of Carillon.

Animals

The Carillon Canal is home to a diverse range of wildlife. The terrestrial fauna includes several species of migratory and sedentary birds, mammals, several species of bats, as well as land snakes and amphibians. The aquatic fauna also includes several species of fish, molluscs and aquatic amphibians.

Environment

The climate of this region is characterized by high precipitation, due to the high humidity from the St. Lawrence and Ottawa Rivers.

Plants

The tree and shrub flora on this site consists almost exclusively of individual examples of planted ornamental species. As a result, no plant or tree community is found here.
