Cartier-Brébeuf National Historic Site
"Sailing upstream approximately ten leagues, alongside the said island [Île d'Orléans], and at the end of which we found a fork in the river, very beautiful and pleasant, where there was a smaller river [St. Charles], [...] which we found to be a favourable location for the safe anchorage of our vessels. We named the said location Sainte-Croix [...] At this location, there is a people, whose lord is Donnacona by name, and it is there they have their habitation, which is called Stadacona [...]"
