Learn-to Fish
Chambly Canal National Historic Site
Fishing is a simple, accessible and fun family activity that requires a minimum of knowledge. Parks Canada, in collaboration with the Fondation de la faune du Québec, invites youths aged 6 to 17 to a free introductory fishing activity at the Chambly Canal National Historic Site.
Activity details
Meeting point: parc des Ateliers of the Chambly Canal
During this activity, young people will learn about the biology of fish, the basics of fishing, the ethics of fishing, and sport fishing regulations and safety in Quebec.
In addition to seeing a demonstration of fishing techniques, such as light casting, hooking and retrieving, they will learn how to set up their own fishing line. Afterwards, there will be a 45-minute practice period with the Parks Canada team.
Equipment Provided
- Fishing equipment such as a rod and bait
- A fishing permit valid until they reach age 18 will be given to each participant at the end of the activity
- Personal flotation device
Note to accompanying adults: If you wish to fish, you must bring your own equipment and hold a valid fishing licence.

The activity runs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Reservations for learn-to fish can be made by email.

Important information
- All children must be accompanied by a responsible adult.
- Please arrive 15 minutes before the activity starts
- Wear weather-appropriate clothing
- You must bring your own water bottle, hat, sunscreen and snacks
- Restrooms, refreshment stands and picnic tables are available nearby
- Attention cyclists: bike racks are available for participants. Bring your own lock
- The activity is not suitable for people with reduced mobility
- Animals are not allowed
