History
2018 marked the 175th anniversary of the opening of the Chambly Canal to commercial navigation. Discover its history and the impact this canal has had on the economic development of the region.
Architecture
Several of the Chambly Canal bridges have rare technical characteristics, in some cases unique in the Canadian canal system.
Engineering
Most of Canada's canals consist of a series of locks allowing boats to overcome obstacles such as dams, rapids, sandbars and rocky riverbeds. Canals and locks construction, as well as the maintenance of these, requires great engineering knowledge.
Archaeology
In recent decades, archaeological interventions have been conducted under the Parks Canada responsibility to document the land use history of the sectors of the Chambly Canal in Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu and at the Fort Chambly site. Through this work, the general public has had the opportunity to discover the richness of the cultural resources along this waterway.
