FREE online workshops for teachers and facilitators

Parks Canada is pleased to partner with École en Réseau to present free online workshops all year long. This year, the workshops are:

  • Diplomacy in New France - November 9, 2023
  • Grosse Île: 105 years of science - March 1st, 2024

Facilitators and teachers are required to register online in advance for each workshop via the École en Réseau* website.

*Please note that the École en Réseau website is only available in French. However, all of the presentations listed on this page will be given in both official languages. Registration and information is available in English via the links below.

How does it work?

The day before each presentation, those who have signed up will receive an email with a link to join the workshop. All presentations will be recorded and can be viewed after the original presentation date using a link provided to those that registered for the presentation.

Diplomacy in New France

What was the lifestyle of the settlers in New France? Did you know that there was a Governor General whose main function was diplomacy? At the same time, the Huron-Wendat lived in clans in longhouses. Students will learn about the importance of diplomatic relations between the governors and Huron-Wendat chiefs.

They will learn:

  • the roles of the Governor General and Sovereign Council
  • the importance of diplomacy and diplomatic relations with First Nations
  • the French settlers’ way of life in the 18th century
  • the longhouse lifestyle and relationships based on exchange

Grosse Île : 105 years of science
Come discover 105 years of science at Grosse-Île! The mission of this quarantine station was to fight against the spread of contagious diseases in Canada through ships transporting immigrants to the port of Quebec. You will understand how medical and technological advancements, as well as renowned scientists, have played a central role in the evolution of the station, the history of immigration and public health in Canada. You will see that the lessons learned on Grosse Île more than 100 years ago are still valid and more relevant than ever….

They will learn:

  • the operation of a quarantine station
  • the evolution of science and its application to medical treatments 
  • the various diseases treated
