Chilkoot Trail National Historic Site

  1. 1. Do not remove or disturb cultural and natural resources.


    It is unlawful to remove, disturb, damage, or destroy archaeological / historic objects and flora, fauna and natural objects. It is illegal to cut or gather wood (eg: for fires, etc) within the Chilkoot Trail National Historic Site.

  2. 2. Do not disturb, feed, or entice wildlife.


    Treat wild animals with the respect they deserve. Please keep your distance. Never, ever feed wildlife. Feeding wildlife is unlawful.

  3. 3. Do not pollute.


    Littering is prohibited. Practice “leave no trace” and “pack-in pack-out.”

  4. 4. Fishing is prohibited.


    It is also illegal to be in possession of fishing rods, hooks, tackle, and other equipment that can be used to catch or take fish in the National Historic Site.

  5. 5. Hunting and possession of firearms, is prohibited.
  6. 6. Pets must be on a leash and under physical control at all times.


    Please, clean up after your pet and dispose of pet feces in the outhouses.

  7. 7. Random camping is permitted without permit


    As per the Winter Camping Authorization, random camping is permitted without a permit including the Log Cabin Parking Lot, but does not include the Bennett and Lindeman City restricted activity areas. Camping is only permitted in the immediate vicinity of the day use cabins in these areas.

  8. 8. Campfires are prohibited, with the exception of Log Cabin parking lot


    As per the Fire Authorization, from December 15, 2020 through May 15, 2021 open fires are permitted in the Log Cabin Parking Lot, but must be within a self-contained fire pan or drum.

    It is illegal to cut or gather firewood within Chilkoot Trail National Historic Site.

  9. 9. The Use of snowmobiles is prohibited during “Non-Motorized Weekends”


    This includes the operation, loading, and unloading of snowmobiles in the entire National Historic Site, including the Log Cabin parking lot from Friday through Sunday, as identified in the Non-Motorized Weekends Schedule. Snowmobiles are permitted at all other times.

  10. 10. Motorized use is prohibited at all times in the areas known as Bennett City and Lindeman City


    As per the Bennett and Lindeman City restricted activity area orders.

  11. 11. Cannabis

    It is illegal to take cannabis across Canada's national borders, whether you are entering or leaving Canada.

    If you are only visiting the Canadian portion of the Chilkoot Trail, you may possess and use cannabis, provided you remain at least 6m (20ft) away from any public buildings, including outhouses, public use shelters, and patrol cabins.

    It is an offence to be intoxicated in public in the National Historic Site.

  12. 12. Noise or disturbance


    Any activity that unreasonably interferes with visitor enjoyment, the beauty of the park, or an activity that causes threats to the natural environment or to the cultural resources is prohibited.

  13. 13. Special events, commercial filming, research, business activities, and guiding


    Special events, commercial filming, research, business activities, and guiding activities (including activities conducted by non-profit organizations and charities) requires a permit from Parks Canada.
