Buy local, burn local
Banff National Park
Moving firewood can carry insects and disease to new areas, damaging local ecosystems.
Follow these best practices to protect our park from invasive species:
- BUY firewood locally, within the national park.
- firewood can usually be purchased at grocery stores and gas stations within Banff National Park; do not bring your own firewood into the park.
- LEAVE any unused firewood on site to prevent transporting invasive species to new areas.
- LEARN to identify common invasive species and report them using iNaturalist.
Why?
Nature is a delicate balance. Too much of one species or not enough of the other can be extremely damaging to the local flora and fauna. This affects a national park’s ecological integrity.
