How you can help: respect closed areas

Disturbed areas are particularly vulnerable to invasive plant species. Invasive plant species harm ecological integrity, and are difficult to remove once they take root. Re-establishing native plant communities is important. Once the soil has been properly returned and the right mix of native plant seeds have been planted, the native plants must be left alone to establish roots and contribute to soil stability.

Allowing some time following the construction period for native plant communities to re-establish is an important part of a rehabilitation process. Walking over recently seeded areas can be harmful to the success of rehabilitation work.
