What:
Pursuant to section 7(1) of the National Parks General Regulations, the following activities are prohibited by order of the Superintendent:
The use, entry and travel by all types of watercraft on the Maligne River between the outlet of Maligne Lake to the inlet of Medicine Lake.
Where
The wetted perimeter of the Maligne River between the outlet of Maligne Lake and the inlet of Medicine Lake, in Jasper National Park :
- Including that part of Maligne Lake within a 100 meter radius of a point in the middle of the Maligne River where it leaves Maligne Lake. The 100-meter radius is delineated by shoreline signs and the UTM coordinate of 11U 0456662/5842109;
- Including that part of Medicine Lake within a 180-meter radius of a point in the middle of the Maligne River at high water, where it enters Medicine Lake. The 180 meter radius is delineated by shoreline signs and a UTM coordinate of 11U 0451191/5854340.
The attached map provides a graphic description of the closed area.
Why:
For the protection of Harlequin Ducks from human disturbance.
Penalty:
Violators may be charged under the Canada National Parks Act: maximum penalty $25 000.
