Pass Creek Day Use Area
Pass Creek Day Use Area offers a sheltered winter campground. Camping is offered on a first-come, first-served basis for tents and RVs. Self-registration and fire permit fees for winter camping are in effect.
Date: November 1 to April 1.
Location: Located next to the entrance road by the Red Rock Parkway junction, about four kilometres from the park gate.
What's included?
- Campfires are permitted in the fire ring provided. Firewood is supplied
- There is an enclosed picnic shelter with a wood burning stove
- There is no electrical service (no lights in the kitchen shelter and primitive washrooms only)
- Blakiston Creek provides a natural water source. Boil and filter untreated water before using
- The area is ploughed and maintained during the winter months
Heated washrooms are available at Cameron Falls and the visitor center. Potable water is available at the Fire Hall, 3 km away in the Waterton townsite.
Cameron Lake Cabin
The Alpine Club of Canada (ACC) operate a backcountry cabin in Waterton Lakes National Park, Cameron Lake Cabin, providing overnight accommodation in the winter.
Cameron Lake Cabin is the oldest surviving backcountry cabin in the park, originally built as a Warden cabin in 1929.
Date: Open December 1 to April 1.
Location: Located about 35 metres from the Akamina Parkway, near Cameron Lake. In winter, the Akamina Parkway is open to vehicles as far as Little Prairie Day Use Area. From there, visitors are able to cross-country ski or snowshoe to Cameron Lake Cabin (about two kilometres).
