Fishing
Waterton Lakes National Park
Beginning April 1, 2024 angling for all fish species will no longer be permitted at any time in flowing waters (streams and rivers) within the park. Angling will continue as per current regulations in still water (lakes).
You must complete a mandatory self-inspection for all angling gear before fishing in park waters.
A national park fishing permit is required to fish in Waterton Lakes National Park. This may be purchased as a daily or annual permit. Annual permits expire on March 31 of each year.
Fishing permits may be purchased at the Visitor Centre, Townsite Campground and at various businesses in the Waterton townsite.
Permit prices can be found on our fees page.
See the current Fishing Regulations for the Mountain National Parks in Alberta and British Columbia for general fishing regulations (Canada National Parks Act) and for information on open seasons, special restrictions and closed waters in Waterton Lakes National Park.
