Marine mammals
Gwaii Haanas National Park Reserve, National Marine Conservation Area Reserve, and Haida Heritage Site
Kayakers can impact marine mammals. Whales, seals and sea lions can detect motors at a distance. However, kayaking offers the ability to get close to rocks and islets, and intertidal and marine life through silent, self-propelled travel.
The downside to those close encounters is that kayakers are more likely than motorized craft to surprise marine mammals. Review the guidelines for viewing marine mammals.
