Gwaii Haanas National Park Reserve, National Marine Conservation Area Reserve, and Haida Heritage Site
Restricted Activities

Under the authority of the Haida Nation and the Government of Canada, pursuant to Section 7(1) of the National Parks General Regulations, and the inherent responsibility of the Haida Nation to protect the lands and waters of Haida Gwaii, the following activities are restricted in Gwaii Haanas National Park Reserve, National Marine Conservation Area Reserve, and Haida Heritage Site by order of the Superintendent:
Activity Restrictions:
- Any shore-based activity involving groups of 13 or more persons, unless an exception has been granted in writing;
- Camping at the same location* for more than 3 consecutive nights, unless adverse weather conditions prevent safe travel. *Location is defined as an area with a radius of one nautical mile.
- Leave unattended* any item that could potentially attract or be accessed by wildlife (e.g. food, personal items, equipment, etc.). *Unattended is defined as not under the direct supervision of a person, or not stored in a manner that would reasonably prevent access by wildlife.
- It is prohibited to leave, store, or cache petroleum products at any location.
- It is prohibited to land, take off or fly a drone at any location, except by written permission.
The purpose of this order is to enhance visitor experience and to protect the natural and cultural heritage of Gwaii Haanas.
Penalty:
Contravention of this order may result in a fine or court appearance under regulations pursuant to the Canada National Parks Act.
