Gwaii Haanas National Park Reserve, National Marine Conservation Area Reserve, and Haida Heritage Site
Activity Restrictions and Area Closures

Under the authority of the Haida Nation and the Government of Canada through the Archipelago Management Board (AMB), pursuant to Section 7(1) of the National Parks General Regulations and the inherent responsibility of the Haida Nation to protect the lands and waters of Haida Gwaii, the following activity restrictions and area closures are in effect in Gwaii Haanas National Park Reserve, National Marine Conservation Area Reserve, and Haida Heritage Site.
Activity Restrictions:
- Access to Hotspring Island is prohibited for domestic animals for reasons of public health related to the hot pools and closed to camping for reasons of cultural sensitivity (Map 1).
- Ḵ’iid Xyangs Ḵ’iidaay (Dolomite/Burnaby Narrows) is closed to camping on the west side between N 52° 21’ 0.142” W 131° 21’ 6.677” and N 52° 21’ 59.57” W 131° 21’ 18.69” and on the east side between N 52° 21’ 9.600” W131° 20’ 59.54” and N 52° 21’ 59.93” W 131° 21’ 2.325” (inclusive) for reasons of public safety, visitor enjoyment, and protection of sensitive ecological heritage (Map 1).
- SG̱ang Gwaay (Anthony Island) is closed to camping for reasons of cultural sensitivity (Map 1).
Area Closures:
- Titul Island is closed to access for reasons of cultural sensitivity (Map 1).
- House Island and Islets and Hotspring Islets are closed for reasons of ecological and cultural sensitivity (Map 1).
- The northwest side of Ramsay Island is closed to access between N 52° 33’ 50.41” W 131° 26’ 9.816” and N 52° 34’ 1.627” W 131° 24’ 29.44” for reasons of ecological sensitivity (Map 1).
- The isthmus between the two eastern Swan Islets and all of Bolkus Island and Islets are closed to access for reasons of cultural sensitivity (Map 1).
- The Copper Islands with the exception of George Island for reasons of ecological sensitivity (Map 1).
- Rankine Islands, Garcin Rocks, SG̱ang Gwaay (Anthony Island) and islets, and the Kerouard Islands are closed to access for reasons of ecological sensitivity (Map 1).
- Bowles Point west of the trail connecting the north and south beaches is closed to access for reasons of cultural sensitivity (Map 1).
Penalty:
Contravention of this order may result in a fine or court appearance under regulations pursuant to the Canada National Parks Act.
