Kootenay National Park
RESTRICTED ACTIVITY: Restriction on the use of non-motorized watercraft, fishing equipment and aquatic recreational equipment.

WHAT: Pursuant to Section 7(1) of the National Parks General Regulations, of the Canada National Parks Act, Use of a non-motorized watercraft, fishing equipment and aquatic recreational equipment is RESTRICTED to only the holders of a valid Self- Certification Permit.
“Non-motorized watercraft” means: any boat, canoe, kayak, raft, stand-up paddleboard, inflatable, or other type or class of vessel that is not motorized.
“Fishing equipment” means: fishing rods, tackle, waders, wading boots, gloves, nets, or any other type of fishing equipment that comes into contact with water or animal material.
“Aquatic recreational equipment” means personal floatation devices, throw bags, water shoes, wetsuits, or any other type of recreational gear that comes in contact with the water.
WHERE: All waterbodies within Kootenay National Park at all times.
WHY: To prevent the spread of Aquatic Invasive Species.
PENALTY: Violators may be charged under the Canada National Parks Act: maximum penalty $25 000.
