Isabel Coursier
Mount Revelstoke National Park
Isabel Coursier was 16 years old when she broke a world record in ski jumping. She landed her record jump of 25.6m (84 ft) in 1922 at what is now referred to as the Nels Nelsen Historic Ski Jump in Mount Revelstoke National Park in her hometown of Revelstoke, BC.
From that day forward, Isabel was celebrated as being the first female world champion ski-jumper. In practice jumps, Isabel exceeded 100 feet and was the first female to jump on her own. At the time, the few women who did venture into ski-jumping contests came down the jump holding the hand of a male jumper.
