Yoho National Park is located in British Columbia (B.C.) near the Alberta (AB) border. It is part of the UNESCO Canadian Rocky Mountain Parks World Heritage Site. The village of Field, B.C. is the only community inside Yoho National Park. The closest full service towns are Golden, B.C. and Banff, Alberta. 

Directions

By vehicle

Highway 1 (also called the Trans-Canada Highway) runs 45 km through the centre of the park. It is the only major route through the park. There is no public transportation in Yoho National Park. Most people travel in a personal vehicle. Vehicle rentals are available in Golden, B.C. as well as in Banff and Lake Louise, Alberta.

By air

Calgary and Vancouver are the closest airports that are serviced by major national and international carriers. Connections may be made to Cranbrook, 245 km south of Golden, B.C. Airport Shuttles from Calgary, Alberta are available to Lake Louise near the park's east entrance.  

By rail

There is limited rail service on a sightseeing basis through Yoho National Park. Contact Banff / Lake Louise Tourism for details. 

Road conditions

Drive BC provides road conditions for British Columbia. Dial 1-800-550-4997.
511 Alberta provides road conditions for Alberta. Dial 511 (inside Alberta) or 1-877-391-9743 (outside Alberta). The highway is maintained throughout the year. The maximum speed limit is 90 km/hr. Temporary closures may occur in the event of adverse weather conditions.

Did you know? There is one seasonal road in Yoho National Park. The Little Yoho Valley Road, leading to Takakkaw Falls, is closed each winter due to avalanche hazard. Each spring, heavy equipment is required to clear the road, even by mid-June.
