National Indigenous History Month

In June, we commemorate National Indigenous History Month. During this month, take time to recognize the rich history, heritage, resilience and diversity of First Nations, Inuit and Métis Peoples across Canada.

Riding Mountain National Park is home to Anishinabe who have contributed to many historical events shaping the relationships of today. There are many elders and veterans who have served with Canadian Armed Forces, sustained their voices to speak to truth and Treaties and their implementation, who continue to keep watch and look after the peoples and lands, and to protect and present their culture.

It is in Treaty 2, and we work with Anishinabe from Treaty 2, 4 and 1 who are collectively called the Coalition of First Nations with Interest in Riding Mountain. Parks Canada maintains a special relationship with Keeseekoowenin Ojibway First Nation and continues to work at fostering positive and collaborative relationships.
