Issued: January 23, 2025
Ends: May 15, 2025
ROCKY HARBOUR, NL, JANUARY 23, 2025 – Parks Canada would like to advise snowmobilers and winter users that Gros Morne National Park is now open for snowmobiling as of January 23, 2025. Here are the snowmobiling season dates for both local community resident and public/commercial snowmobile permit holders:
- Local Community Resident Snowmobile Permit Holders: January 23 to May 15, 2025
- Public/Commercial Snowmobile Permit Holders: January 23 to April 30, 2025
Snowmobiling season dates are subject to change at the discretion of Parks Canada due to factors such as, but not limited to unfavourable snow conditions, dangerous conditions, or impact to ecosystems.
Parks Canada would like to remind all users to expect variable weather and snow conditions. Bogs and barrens can have reduced snow cover due to changing weather conditions. When travelling over those areas, remain on commonly used routes to avoid damaging vegetation and terrain. Be mindful of avalanche hazards, especially during periods of rapid accumulation of fresh or wind driven snow on leeward slopes. Please take precautions before going out onto ice covered ponds or rivers and be prepared for unusual, thin, and potentially dangerous ice conditions. Avoid travelling over ice after dark or going out alone and leave a trip plan with a friend or family member.
All permits and passes can be obtained from the Gros Morne Visitor Centre in Rocky Harbour. Public hours are Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Passes may also be picked up from the Discovery Centre in Woody Point on Wednesdays from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. For more information, please email grosmorne@pc.gc.ca or phone 709-458-2417.
