The Akami-Uapishkᵁ-KakKasuak-Mealy Mountains National Park Reserve encompasses outstanding landscapes and as park creation unfolds visitors will be able to learn about Indigenous cultures and experience outdoor recreational opportunities such as canoeing/kayaking, backcountry camping and hiking.

The beautiful White Bear, North and English Rivers include both Atlantic salmon and trout. The high mountains offer exceptional hiking opportunities to visitors. Where the park meets the Labrador Sea, an extensive, 50-kilometre stretch of sandy beaches known as the Wunderstrands can be found. It is destined to be one of the icons of the park, and can currently be explored by kayak or other boat access from Cartwright or Rigolet. Another focal point of the national park reserve is the Mealy Mountains themselves. From their rugged peaks a lush forested landscape gently descends eastwards towards the coast until it meets the frigid waters of the Labrador Sea. This is a landscape of undisturbed watersheds and pristine wild rivers with breathtaking rapids and waterfalls.

As part of the co-operative management vision and commitments (see Park Management), Parks Canada is in the early stages of collaborating with residents of nearby towns, Indigenous communities, tourism experts and other stakeholders to develop visitor activities and innovative ways to share the park’s history and culture.
