In alignment with the Province of Nova Scotia’s announcement that the ban on woodland activities has been lifted, trails in Cape Breton Highlands National Park have reopened, effective immediately. Other restrictions including backcountry camping at Fishing Cove are also lifted.

A full fire ban remains in effect at Cape Breton Highlands National Park. No open fires are permitted. This includes campfires, charcoal barbecues, and candles. Propane/gas camp stoves and lanterns are permitted but should be used with caution. Fire in kitchen shelters stoves are not permitted.

The Old Town Trail and Royal Battery Trail at the Fortress of Louisbourg National Historic Site have also reopened, effective immediately. The Lighthouse Trail and Simon’s Point Trail, within the boundaries of the national historic site, remain closed due to damage sustained during last year’s Hurricane Fiona.
