Sable Island National Park Reserve

Sable Island is roughly 42 km long and no more than 1.3 km at its widest. It stretches from west to east and spans a total area of 3,400 ha. It is located 290 km southeast of Halifax, Nova Scotia, at the edge of the Continental Shelf, in the Atlantic Ocean.

Sable Island is situated in the Atlantic Ocean near the edge of the Continental Shelf, 290 km offshore from Halifax, Nova Scotia. The closest landfall is Canso, Nova Scotia, at 161 km, making it one of Canada’s furthest offshore islands.
