Issued: February 18, 2025

Parks Canada hereby gives notice that Nahanni National Park Reserve will be accepting applications for a single guided river outfitter. The deadline to apply is March 31, 2025.

Applications under consideration will be for a commercial river outfitter in Nahanni National Park Reserve (not Nááts’įhch’oh National Park Reserve). The successful applicant will be granted limited allocation in 2025 and potential for junior allocation in the following years. For more information about allocations please contact the Fort Simpson office at the address listed below.

Applications will follow the review process outlined in the Guidelines for Licensing of Guided River Outfitting that are applicable to Nahanni National Park Reserve. The licence is subject to Best Management Practices and a Preliminary Screening under the Mackenzie Valley Resource Management Act. For more information, applicants should consult Appendix B of the guidelines or contact the Fort Simpson office.

Parks Canada highlights section 4.2 of the Guidelines regarding Indigenous Engagement Activities: Indigenous engagement covers a broad range of activities. In its minimalist form it can be establishing a rapport with an Indigenous community or organization. It can also include cooperative and long term relationship building through stewardship initiatives and/or partnerships. Indigenous engagement can be flexible and innovative. Proactive and ongoing engagement is the standard of conduct in the north and is a key consideration for evaluating new applications.

Notice includes a work plan, although timelines are not guaranteed:
