Wood Buffalo National Park

WOOD BUFFALO NATIONAL PARK TRAIL CAMERA INSTALLATION

FORT SMITH, NT, February 19, 2025 — Parks Canada, the Alberta Biodiversity Monitoring Institute, the University of Alberta and partnering Indigenous Nations have installed wildlife trail cameras throughout Wood Buffalo National Park to monitor bison, whooping cranes and other park wildlife.

The cameras will also provide data on snow depth and the ecological effects of environmental stressors on wildlife and habitats.

Trail Camera Locations include:

  • South of Lake Claire within the national park boundary (highlighted area in Map 1 below)
  • North of the Caribou Mountains along the west boundary of the park (highlighted area in Map 2 below)
  • North of Lake Claire within Sweetgrass Landing (highlighted area in Map 3 below)
  • North of Lake Claire on the both the North and South side of the Peace River (highlighted area in Map 4 below)
  • Along highway 5 approximately 60 km west of the town of Fort Smith (highlighted area in Map 5 below)

 

To protect public privacy, images of people captured by trail cameras will be deleted.
