Wildlife observations

Quttinirpaaq National Park

Throughout the operating season, park staff, visitors and researchers contributed to the Quttinirpaaq National Park monitoring program by opportunistically documenting any wildlife observations made.

At the end of the operating season, wildlife observations are added to the Kestrel wildlife database and bird observations are added to eBird Canada. Highlights of this year were multiple sightings of large (17-22) Muskox herds near Lake Hazen and two sightings of small Peary Caribou herds totalling 7 animals.

The midnight sun, rugged mountains, glaciers, polar desert and an oasis in the Arctic are all features that contribute to the uniqueness of the northernmost national park in Canada.
