Common Snapping Turtle

Common snapping turtles are the largest species of freshwater turtle in Canada, and can live to be over 80 years old in the wild. Habitat fragmentation and road mortality are causing significant damage to turtle populations. The installation of Eco-passages and artificial turtle nesting sites at Bruce Peninsula National Park is helping to reconnect wetland habitat and reduce road mortality of snapping turtles.
