Operating hours

Parks Canada is focusing resources on the periods when national parks and historic sites are busiest. As a result, the operating season and hours of some parks and sites are changing. Hours of operation and services are being aligned to better reflect when and where the majority of visitors use them.

At Pukaskwa National Park: The visitor centre remains open daily in July and August. The campground and kiosk continue to be fully serviced between the May long weekend and mid-September. Comfort stations will be closed from mid-September to mid-May, with compost toilets available over the winter. As in past years, the road to the campground is closed to motorized vehicles from mid-November to mid-April.

At Sault Ste. Marie Canal National Historic Site: The visitor centre is open every day in July and August and during periods of highest visitation from mid-May to Canadian Thanksgiving. The recreational lock remains fully operational from May 15 to October 15, and the site’s washrooms are open to match the lock’s hours. From mid-October to mid-May the visitor centre, lock and washrooms will be closed.

At Fort St. Joseph National Historic Site: The site remains open daily from June 1st to Canadian Thanksgiving.

These decisions allow Parks Canada to meet its financial requirements in a way that limits direct impact on services to Canadians and respects Parks Canada’s core mandate. We will continue to tell stories important to our national identity, manage species at risk, provide meaningful experiences to promote understanding and appreciation of Canada, and support communities through tourism—as we have done for the last 100 years.
