Indigenous history
Rouge National Urban Park
Indigenous communities play a large role at many Parks Canada places. Parks Canada works with more than 300 Indigenous communities across the country to conserve, restore, and present these special places, while recognizing the role of Indigenous People in Canada and the traditional use of these areas. Visitors also have the opportunity to learn about Indigenous cultures and history at Parks Canada locations.
Sport and games
The Rouge is home to many historic and significant travel paths. Indigenous peoples used these paths since time immemorial, running from community to community delivering messages, for protection, for ritual and for sport.
Indigenous athletes
Then, and now, Indigenous athletes are considered masters of distance running, and are counted among the most esteemed runners in Canadian history.
