Tree maintenance – Central, Northeast and Harvest trails

Issued: October 30, 2024

Ends: December 13, 2024

Please be advised that beginning the week of Monday, October 28, Parks Canada will undertake work to trim and prune shrubs, trees and vegetation bordering Central, Northeast and Harvest trails. Once underway, this work is expected to take approximately six weeks to complete.

Access to trails will remain open, however, visitors may be temporarily re-routed around sections of trail where work is being carried out during regular business hours on weekdays.

Visitors are asked to respect signage, comply with the direction of on-site staff, keep a safe distance from maintenance crews and onsite equipment and be aware of minor disturbances such as noise.

Managing vegetation around trails in Rouge National Urban Park ensures that Parks Canada trail crews can access the area to perform regular trail maintenance during the peak operational season. It also helps reduce the spread of invasive species, discourages encroachment, and ultimately creates a safer, more enjoyable trail experience for visitors.

All Parks Canada projects are subject to environmental assessments to ensure appropriate ecological protection measures are in place. Work will be completed outside of the bird nesting season to protect migratory birds and wildlife. Removed branches will be chipped or left in the work area to retain biomass and to prevent any spread of invasive species such as the Emerald Ash Borer.
