Fire Ban in Effect

Activities prohibited:
Pursuant to section 3(1)(c) of the National Parks of Canada Fire Protection Regulations, the starting and/ or maintaining of fires within Grasslands National Park hereby prohibited by order of the Superintendent, South Saskatchewan Field Unit.

This fire ban includes ALL open fires, EXCEPT, the following, which must be under direct supervision, on gravel or cement ground in designated campsites and cooking shelters and certified by the Canadian Standards Association (CSA Group) or Underwriters Laboratories (UL):

• portable propane fire pits with flame heights no higher then 15 cm
• gas or propane stoves and barbeques designed for cooking or heating
• propane or gas fuelled lanterns (enclosed flame)
• patio heaters (propane, catalytic or infrared/ radiant)

Where:
This fire ban covers the entire East and West Blocks of Grasslands National Park including all front and backcountry campgrounds and day use areas.

Why:
For the prevention of wildfire during elevated Fire Danger conditions in Grasslands National Park.

Penalty:
Any contravention of this order may result in revocation of camping permit and violators may be charged under the Canada National Parks Act: maximum penalty $25 000.
