Southern Area Backcountry Campgrounds

Take a hike and discover diversity!

Some of Prince Albert National Park’s most diverse trails are in the southern portion of the park. On these trails the forest habitat seems to change with every bend or hill. From grassy meadows and jack pine covered hillsides to spruce bogs and aspen woodlands, the park’s southern forest seems to have it all. Camping at one of Prince Albert National Park’s South Area Campgrounds will be the perfect home base to explore this transitional forest ecosystem.

The South area campsites are considered unserviced sites. Regular backcountry fees apply. Please remember to register.

Backcountry registration for these areas can be done at the South Gate or the Visitor Centre. 

• Fish Lake Campground
• Camp Lake Campground

*Fish and Camp Lake Campgrounds offer:

• Raised sand or gravel tent sites
• Pit toilets (paper is not provided)
• Picnic table & fire-pit at each site
• Firewood may be gathered from fallen trees and deadfall on the ground. Do not cut or remove material from standing trees.
• “Bear bar” style cache for securing wildlife attractants. A 15m (50 foot) rope is required.

Fish Lake Campground

You will find the Fish Lake campground resting in a forest of aspen and birch on the shores of Fish Lake. This campground is a great place for hikers, bikers and horseback riders.

Located 13km from the Elk Trail trailhead, Fish Lake Campground offers:

• 2 single campsites
• Hitching Post

Camp Lake Campground

Only a few kilometres down the trail from Fish Lake, Camp Lake campground offers a very different setting. Surrounded by a cool spruce forest, Camp Lake Campround makes a great place to rest after a long hike or trail ride.

Located 15km from the Elk Trail trailhead, Camp Lake Campground offers:

• 2 single campsites
• Hitching Post
