The details

The Spruce Beetle Trail is a family hike that is considered easy going, leading you to a viewing platform. From there you can have a break and enjoy the valley view. You will also see a lot of brown spruce trees along the way. These trees were killed by the spruce beetle and you will learn from the interpretive signs how this insect contributes to the natural lifecycle of the boreal forest. A few sections of this trail are lined with exposed tree roots and rocks.

Bear sightings are common in the area. Review recommendations for travel within the You are in Bear Country brochure. All bear sightings should be reported to the staff at the Kluane National Park and Reserve Visitor Centre in Haines Junction or at the Thachäl Dhäl Visitor Centre.
