Designate a historic place in your community
In Canada, historic places can be designated at the local, provincial, territorial, or federal level. The Government of Canada designates places of national historic significance. All other designations occur through municipal, provincial and territorial authorities. There are several ways to have a place recognized for its historic importance:
Contact Parks Canada’s Historic Sites and Monuments Board of Canada Secretariat for places of national historic significance.
Contact your municipal, provincial or territorial representative to learn how you can put forth a proposal to have a place of local or provincial/territorial importance designated.
